A Second Chance
I first purchased this 62 back 20 years ago. I cleaned it up, put a new wood bed in it, got the 400 small block running, and took it on its “maiden voyage” 100 miles to visit family. While I was there, a gentleman and his wife knocked on my dads door and said, “I want to buy that green truck”. I quickly told him, “It’s not for sale.” He then made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, so I sold it to him.
17 years later, my dad passed away (2018). I went to his home to help sell some of his possessions in an “open house” format. A lady, tapped me on my shoulder and said, “Do you remember me?” I said, no. She said, “My husband and I bought your ’62 truck 17 years ago, and he recently passed away and I’ll be selling the truck sometime soon.” I asked her, when she is ready, if I could have first dibs and she said “Yes”!!
I called her every 3 months, and a year later, the ’62, came back home. I’m in the process of restoring it, one step at a time. I know I’m a lucky fella, so I’m going to enjoy the process that I didn’t get to do 20 years ago!!
