My brother bought this truck for farm use in Wisconsin. He had it for two years and decided to buy a four wheel drive GMC. I bought the ’78 GMC Sierra Classic 15 from him in 1980 an have been driving it ever since, through Minnesota winters, commuting back and forth to work, lots of camping trips with a slide-in camper in back, and many hunting trips out west. I had it painted, and overhauled the engine in 1989. The trick is to keep the underside clean and the fenders flushed out and coated with preservative oil from the inside. There is 300,000+ miles on it and still is my daily driver. As you can see, it gets good care.  And I do daily servicing and maintenance on it. Thanks LMC for your help in supplying parts when needed!
