Jimmie’s F100 XLT

It was early Sat. Aug 18, 1973, my dad, Jimmie, said to me and my three brothers, Jim, Kevin and Keith,” lets go look at new trucks.” We needed a truck to haul our trailer full of Motorcycles. We ended up at Webster Wolford Ford in Oregon City, Oregon. The salesman John “Rusty” Koehulein led us to their overflow lot a mile away. On the back row we found a bright Red F100 Ranger XLT “Trailer Special”.
This was the perfect truck for us. We needed a truck that could haul a camper and pull a trailer full of motorcycles. Rusty asked my dad how much he wanted to put down. Jimmie looked in his wallet, he had $14
dollars and that’s what he put down, leaving 36 payments at $115 a month. From day one we started a gas mileage book. On Aug 18th, the day we drove it home, we put $5.60 worth of gas at 39 cents/gallon.
We also used the book to keep track of Vacations, a lot of beach trips. We also have the Window Sticker, bill of sale, bank contract, metal pro-tecto plate and the Marti report, the truck was built in San Jose, CA, date 7-13-1973 sold on 1-18-1973. 360 CI, AT C-6 trans. I still remember how shinny and bright it was even in winter 1 Candy apple red, Ranger XLT Package, Lite Duty Towing package, “Trailer Special”. It had everything,
power steering, power brakes, AM radio, amp meter and oil gauges, tinted windows and protection group.
Our truck is one of 5,364 with this paint/trim codes, one of 67,512 that have the Ranger XLT package.
The F-100 now has 107,845 miles on it and still going strong. Myself and son Jeff along with my 3 brothers installed a new 360 engine about 15 years ago. Back in the summer of 1974, Our Dad and Mom bought a new camper and for many years we hauled our motorcycles to dirt tracks & camping the Oregon coast. I have been with the truck since new and I know where its been everyday of it’s life!
I want to give a big thank you to LMC Truck for all the new parts and all the help over the years.
My son and I now mostly use the truck to haul around our go-karts that we mounted in the bed.
Thanks
John and Jeff
