Reliving My Youth

These trucks were all over in the later 90’s when I was in high school. They were cheap and parts were everywhere, I had a few as well but life got in the way and I always wanted to build another .
About 2 years ago an elderly man in a local small town had this old GMC for sale, I stopped by his place on my way home from work , the truck was way rusty but the odometer only read 63,000 miles and it was actual, the truck was built in Janesville WI and delivered to Algoma WI where it sold brand new and never left that town. From what I know it spent its entire life outdoors, besides the rust it had moss growing on the roof, the price was $500. I offered the old man $300 cash, the deal was made and I drove it home that day . I was so excited while my wife wondered what was in the yard. With the help of friends we restored this old GMC pickup to its former glory, still in need of a few more things but I just enjoyed driving it for the whole summer. It’s a 1974 GMC Sierra 2wd longbed with the factory 350V8 and turbohydromatic 350 transmission, dual exhaust with flow master 44’s and headers, Holley Street Demon 625 carb, and champion aluminum radiator. LMC supplied the suspension, trim, lights, weather stripping, hardware, gaskets, ashtray cup holder, sport mirrors and much more I’m sure I’m forgetting. It’s lowered 5” in front & 4” in back. I wanted that old school look, searched swap meets for the old keystone wheels and wrapped them with cooper tires. Most of the body sheet metal was replaced, I think the only body metal that was salvaged is the roof and upper cab, frame was blasted and painted, factory color is silver but we went with satin black for the finish, interior is factory fire red. Everything was done by us in my garage at home over a year’s time. Thanks for the parts & my son and I really enjoy looking through your catalogs when they come. Enough reading , here’s the truck
