The Iron Possum

I purchased my Silver 1995 K1500 in 2005 with 98,0000 miles. It was the proverbial unicorn with all of the receipts for maintenance in the glove box. All service tickets were from GM Goodwrench service centers. It came with the factory 5.7 engine with swirl port heads and 3.73 gears. Being somewhat slow and silver, it quickly earned the nickname “The Iron Possum”. Over the years, both of my sons have grown up falling asleep returning from camping, fishing and hunting trips in the truck. When they were younger, they thought the Iron Possum was a super hero. “There ain’t nothin the Iron Possum can’t do!” My oldest son told my wife as he explained how we had to put the truck in “4-wheeler drive” to pull out a stuck Dodge we came upon trail riding. I think he was 6 than. The truck seems to be in every picture of us doing something fun. Having reached 200,000 miles, there have been many occasions where either I have shouted at the truck or it has shouted at me- either way it’s always the same expression-“Stop you fool you’ll get us both killed”. But we always make it home safely. Just replaced the engine with a rebuilt 5.7 and looking forward to many more years of reliable fun. Happy to find so many replacement parts available from LMC.
