Sticker Shock Cure

After retiring last year at the ripe old age of 66, I decided that I would celebrate my new found freedom by purchasing a new GMC pickup. Little did I know that a casual trip to my local dealership would prove to be the means that would shock me back to reality.

After picking one that I thought would suit my needs, my intense excitement was immediately cooled when I looked at the $76K window sticker. After my glasses cleared from fogging and I regained strength in my legs, I painfully climbed back into my 1990 GMC 1500 Sierra for the return trip home.

The trip back proved to be an inspiring ride. The old Sierra that I was driving was purchased from the family who bought it new. It had been well cared for, no past damage or rust, it even had the original carpet that was in extra-ordinary good condition for a 30-year-old truck with 190K miles. After installing a new 350 TBI engine, 350 transmission, new differential, paint and interior, I was totally pleased with the outcome. Now I have a great truck that did not cost me near $76K.
