I had an old 1978 Ford F-100 short bed since 1981. I knew that if I ever replaced it I would get a long bed in whatever brand. The old Ford was my trusty ride until about five years ago and I went on the hunt for a nice looking long bed. Long beds of any make are hard to find in really good condition much less optioned up with the good stuff. They are mostly considered work trucks as opposed to daily drivers.

I put the word out among all my buddies of what I was looking for. It took maybe 2-3 years and one day a friend and I were munching on some really good hotdogs at a local eatery and he allowed as how he passed this nice looking long bed he thought was a Chevy parked in a yard with a For Sale sign on it. We went there and sure enough it was cherry for its years but a GMC nonetheless. Had less than 105,000 actual miles. Had power windows, locks, cruise control.AC and 60/40 bench seat. I climbed in, under and around then took a test drive.

I was hooked. My dream truck just got literally dumped in my lap. I made the guy an offer, he accepted and I went to the bank and came back with the bucks and made that baby mine. I subsequently put new wheels and tires on it, installed a sporty Grant steering wheel and replaced faded light units all around. I hope for many happy years ahead for me and Jimmy.
