Forrest the Truck

Forrest was found in August of 2014 in Golden, CO while attending one of my daughters weddings. He was tucked away in the backyard of gentlemen’s house looking out of place surrounded by 4 other Chevrolet pickups. The owner was out in the garage so I stopped to talk about the Ford in the backyard. I ended up taking a couple of pictures and later that night I showed my wife and she for the first time ever said that we needed to own that truck. I called the gentleman the next morning and purchased Forrest. The next weekend drove 11 hours from South Dakota to Golden, drove Forrest onto a trailer and returned home. We drove Forest around town for a few weeks, though never took him out on the highways as top speed was 45 miles per hour and little 292Y Block engine just didn’t have much life left in it. I talked the wife into bringing new life back to Forrest and it would only take the winter and we would be driving him again in the summer. One major trip to LMC for bed parts and cab corners, many smaller mail order parts, and 5 years Forrest finally made it home and once again brought a big smile to my wife’s face. While attending the Lone Star Nationals GoodGuys event a couple of years ago I stumbled onto LMC’s replacement aluminum bed floor, this was a must have and looks great in the American walnut finish. The one request from the wife was that Forrest must retain his bench seat so the grandkids could ride with along grandma and grandpa. Forrest is running on 20 inch Fuel wheels with 12.5 X 35 Fuel wheels and is now being powered by a rebuilt 428 cid engine. We just finished the interior in January, 2020 and are looking forward to a great summer of driving Forrest.
