My Dream Truck

When I was the age of 12, my dad showed me a picture of his old truck and from that moment on, I have always dreamed about owning my own square body. I absolutely fell in love with these trucks but money was an issue for a 12 year-old kid. So, I waited for six long years. I finally got a good steady job. I decided to start looking for a square body.

Well, I found one and went to look at it. My dad and I drove over two hours away to look at this truck. When I saw it, I loved it. We asked the guy to take it for a test drive and he told us we couldn’t. We asked why and he told us because someone put a down payment on it already. Once he told us that, we got back into our vehicle and drove back home. I was disappointed and depressed. My dad told me to keep my head high and to never jump on the first truck you look at.

To this day, I thank him because we got home that night and I started looking again, and I found one. I immediately messaged the guy and he said he had two guys coming to look at it the next day. I asked what times they were coming and he replied, “6:30 PM and 7:30 PM.” I told him we would be there by 4 PM. He said, “Well, I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”

The next day came and I was excited. 4 PM couldn’t come faster, but it did. We got to the guy’s house and I saw the truck right away. My eyes just expanded. I was amazed at how beautiful this truck was. I fell in love with it. Almost like love at first sight. We pulled in and started looking at the truck. The guy came out and we had him start it and once he started it, I fell in love with the truck even more. My dad said, “We will take it.” We got the title signed and paid the guy. Once I jumped into the truck, I almost burst into tears. I told myself, ‘ I cant believe you own a square body.’ I was completely overwhelmed.

We got it home and I had to show it off. I went to my grandparents’ house, my brother’s house, and my sister’s house. This truck made me glow. But three short days later, I was driving it and I blew the motor up. I burst into tears. I was completely destroyed. My dad and I loaded it up onto a trailer and off to the shop it went. Our mechanic said he had a motor for me and I told him to put it in. I didn’t care what it cost me. I just wanted my truck back.

The next three months were the longest three months of my life, but the day I got my truck back, it was like I was driving it all along. And the only person I can thank is my dad for telling me to keep up my head. I cant thank him enough.
