I have always been a gear head.  Several of us guys after high school were into mud trucks and mud racing.   We lifted and modified 4×4 trucks and entered them in mud drags.

This started my passion for lifted Chevy trucks.    So, in 1982, a friend of mine’s Dad had his 1972 K10 Chevy truck for sale and I had to buy it.  I started my upgrades by adding a 4” lift and 33” tires.  Shortly afterward I changed it to a 9” lift with 40” ground hogs.

There was a guy in town that was always leaving notes on my truck that he wanted to buy it.   All of my buddies were buying new trucks and I caved and sold the truck for a new one with power windows.   I had a lot of fun in that truck.

I would see the truck from time to time, wishing I had never sold it.   A couple of times afterward, I seen it at the car shows and asked if I could buy it back.   No luck.

Life moved on but my passion for trucks continued and I continued to keep a look out for another 1972 Chevy truck.  After searching, I couldn’t find one that was built the way I would like to see it, so I decided I would build one myself.  There were some other projects I had been tinkering with but in the last several years, things began to come together for building the truck.  I was fortunate enough to finally build a pole barn garage and shortly thereafter, I found a 1972 short bed 4×4 K10 truck, a 1972 camper special truck with a 402 big block in it and a 3rd one with a nice cab and factory cab lights.

So off to work I went building it from the frame up.  Modifying the frame with a square body torsion bar and a square body front cross member to accept the big block into the short bed frame.    Then, I rebuilt the 402 big block, 4 speed transmission and transfer case.  Next, I installed new inner and outer rocker panels, new cab corners, and hours and hours of body work.   All the work was completed in my garage, including the paint job.  It has been a labor of love and has demanded much patience from my wife.  I think I will take her for a drive.
