My love for cars, trucks, trains, etc goes back as long as I can remember. I was raised by a dad that couldn’t talk enough about them and took us to car shows. In 1975 a 1954 Chevy 3100 caught my eye, the owner had a new 4×4 on order and would sell this truck to me when his new one came in. Finally, in the spring of 1976 I got my first truck. It had a 235 CID with a 3 spd. But that was replaced with a 283 bored .060 over 11.7 comp pistons, weland aluminum intake with 4 Stromberg 97 carbs and a Muncie M22 4 Spd. 1980 I married my high school sweetheart and while she was pregnant for our 2nd child I sold my truck to buy a family car. We ended up with 5 great kids and went through 3 GMC mini vans. Then my wife supposed me in 2010, for our 30th anniversary, she wanted to buy me a 1954 project truck since I was willing to sell the first one for the family. She found 3 on the internet and we bought the one in Adrian, MI. The truck had been in pieces for 18 years and stored indoors. I started on my new project in October of 2010 and drove it to a car show on Father’s Day 2011. It was completely done buy was getting close.

I did all the work myself, Fab, body, paint, etc. This truck is powered by a 383 Chevy, 9.5 comp, Edlebrock intake and E Street Aluminum heads & Holley terminator stealth fuel injection. The trans is a Tremec TKO 500 with .68 O.D. and finished with a 3.73 Posi rear end. For drivability aud comfort, P.S., P.B., cruise, A/C, Sirius Radio.

This truck averages about 11,000 miles per summer, it is driven to all shows no matter how many states away they are. The truck is called “Houndog”, not for Elvis but because it was the only name my Grandpa August ever called me by. The Lord has been so gracious to my wife and me and we are celebrating our 38th anniversary and have 11 grandchildren. I want to finish up with a special thanks to my high school sweetheart for buying me this project and putting up with all the hours it took me to do it.
