18 years ago when I was 20 years old I built my first hot rod truck. I bought a 1985 Chevy s10 pickup regular cab with a 305 v8 and some nice wheels. Drove it for a year and decided I wanted to rebuild the truck with a better motor, wanted to go pro street look with it and wanted fresh paint. Being young and just starting out it took me 4 years to build and I was able to put a 350 chevy in place of the 305, with the help of some friends I tubbed the truck out and put 29×18.50x 15 mickey Thomson sportsman pro tires along with a narrowed 12 bolt rear end and 4:88 gears. I added a pro snorkel hood scoop to top off the pro street look. I kept the stock s10 dash and added Fiero seats. After finishing the truck I kept it a few months but life got in the way so I sold the truck and figured I would build another one some day. Well 14 years after I sold it, I was on the internet looking for a s10 to build when I stumbled across my old truck! I never saw it or even heard who bought it or where it went, but there it was on a website ravingjunk.com. I could tell by looking at it that it was my old truck. The next day I went to show my buddy the ad but it had been removed. Fast forward I was in racingjunk.com 1 year later and there it was again! The truck was in Peoria , Illinois. The guy lowered the price and I showed my wife and said” I’m calling him and making him an offer.” So I called and after talking to the guy he informed me that there had been an engine fire in the truck. He sent me pictures and after talking to him over the course of a week, we made a deal and me and my wife went to Peoria to get my old truck back! Upon getting it home I was able to get it running and I told my wife I wanted to just fix the fire damage and drive the truck. Over the course of 14 years the truck only had 800 miles put on it. But while talking to my wife she said “ you need to re do the truck” I protested at first because I was just happy to have my old truck back. Well after much discussion, and with my wife’s blessings I tore the entire truck to pieces and started over again! The project took 4 more years, but I used the knowledge I learned and the LMC catalog and redid the truck. I added a 383 striker motor, I built my own 9 inch ford with disc brakes, required the entire truck, added custom leather seats and console and door panels. I added a 1963 Chevy 2 dash with digital gauges. One of the best things about the build the second time was I had a source for new hard to get s10 parts. Your catalog with all the hard to get parts like new weather stripping all around. New chrome headlight bezels, factory style bumper lights, window track weather stops, inner fender push tabs to hold the new rubber flaps in. The custom window cranks. All these little detail items helped me turn my truck into a trophy winner the second time around. I’m excited to have my old truck back, I get to share it with my wife and kids and it’s always better the second time around.
