I am the second and fifth owner of the truck. I bought it in 1983 with 1200 miles. The person I bought it from ordered the truck with every option you could get: air, cruise, tilt wheel, power windows, power door locks and heavy towing package.
I lowered the truck with dropped spindles and springs up front and lowering blocks in the rear. I also put 16” IROC wheels. My wife drove the truck to work one mile every day until 1994, when I pulled the 2.8 V6 motor and bought the 305 TPI motor. I got busy in my shop and did not find time to put the motor in. The truck sat until 2005 when I sold it and the TPI motor to a friend. He rebuilt the motor but did not put it in the truck. He sold the truck and motor in 2008.
This guy and his friend installed the motor and changed the wheels to the Corvette rallys on the rear and 8” rallys on the front. He also installed the cowl induction hood from LMC. He only drove the truck five times and kept it in the garage.
I had kept track of the truck until June 2017 when I bought the truck back. The truck still had the 1993/1994 inspection sticker on the windshield from when I had owned the truck. The miles on the sticker had 26000 miles on it, and we drove it more after the inspection sticker was installed. The truck now has 26500 miles on it.
The truck has been well preserved through the years. Another note: my garage was flooded with four feet of water in 2010 after I sold the truck. The third owner’s garage was also flooded after he had sold the truck. I think it was meant for me to get the truck back and still in great shape.
The truck still has the original paint and interior. I am in the process of installing a 550 HP LS3 motor and Vintage Air, as well as smoothing up the firewall. I also have plans to paint the chassis, install RideTec air ride suspension front and rear and Corvette brakes, narrow the rear end to access deep offset wheels (but not cut the bed up) and install 19”or 20” Foose wheels on the rear and 18” on the front to keep the same stance it has now. I want to ride the truck with the original paint for a few years and then take it all apart, do all the gaps and apply a show paint job on it and show the truck.
