I HAVE HAD THIS BRONCO FOR OVER 25 YEARS. THE REAR SEAT IN THE BACK OF MY PREVIOUS 1970 BRONCO BECAME TO SMALL FOR 3 CHILD SEATS WITH THE ARRIVAL OF NUMBER 3. SO SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THIS 1978 BRONCO. I DIDNT KNOW IT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, BUT THE PREVIOUS OWNER WAS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. SO THIS TRUCK WAS SPECIAL. UNLIKE MOST CALIFORNIA VEHICLES, THIS ONE HAS VIRTUALLY NO RESTRICTIONS OR SMOG DEVICES. THAT BEING SAID, I PROMPTLY REMOVED THE STOCK 351M AND REPLACED IT WITH A 460 WITH 429 COBRA JET HEADS AND CRANK, HEADERS, EDELBROCK INTAKE. THE 460 MOVES THE BRONCO DOWN THE ROAD EFFORTLESSLY AND BETTER MILEAGE AS WELL. RECENTLY, MY HOME IN PARADISE, CALIFORNIA, BURNT TO THE GROUND AS WELL AS THE ENTIRE TOWN, 14,000 HOMES AND BUSINESS’S. WHEN I LEFT MY HOME, I COULD NOT TAKE MY BRONCO, AS WELL AS MANY OTHER THINGS. SO I PARKED MY BRONCO AND SOME EQUIPMENT OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF AN EMPTY LOT. TWO DAYS AFTER FIRE STARTED, I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK TO MY PROPERTY WITH A UTILITY WORKER. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE, IT WAS STILL INTACT, A FEW THINGS MELTED AND LOOKED A LITTLE ROUGH, BUT STILL THERE. SO I FIRED THAT MOTHER AND DROVE IT OUT OF TOWN. A FRIEND SAID HE SAW MY BRONCO ON A LOCAL TELEVISION NEWS STATION. AS THEY WERE REPORTING, THE BRONCO PASSED BY IN THE REAR OF THE SHOT. ITS ONE OF THE FEW THINGS I HAVE LEFT AND I’M DAM GLAD TO HAVE IT. I PLAN ON GIVING IT TO MY GRANDAUGHTER!
