When I was a young man in Atoka, Oklahoma, I always seemed to like the looks of the classic 1953 Chevy 5-Window 3100 Series. But of course, back in the day (meaning the ‘50s and ‘60s) with three kids it was hard to afford food on the table, much less one of these trucks. So as the years passed and I got a little older (okay a lot older) I started looking for this body style pickup. In Atoka we have a little radio program called Tradio, and I was listening to it and I heard this truck advertised so I wrote down the phone number and called it right away.

I hooked up to my trailer, drove to the man’s house, and hauled the truck away in pieces to bring it home and start working on it. This was about 2011. I spent almost five years working on it in my spare time, but my daughter just thought it was taking me way too long. So for Christmas one year she told me she had a first class mechanic in mind, and he came and picked it up. I had most of the original parts, but we had to order a few from LMC.
Finally one day, my daughter told me we were going to have a BBQ and homemade ice cream at my house. I did not even know the color that my wife and daughter had picked out, but when we had the BBQ they surprised me and drove that beautiful aqua and white 1953 Chevy 5-window up my driveway. Boy what a surprise it was. They even made a cake that looked like the pickup.

Now my wife, Margie, and I go to parades and car shows showing off a little. I guess some call it strutting but I call it showing off. We really enjoy the thumbs-ups we get from so many people who are getting as much enjoyment seeing it and taking pictures of it as we do.
