I found my truck in a western NY barn in 2007. It was mice infested, didn’t run but did roll. After a few weeks of wrenching, I got it running and registered. One hot summer day in ’08, after a few adult beverages, I hand painted the “Sanford and Son” graphics to the well rusted and dented truck. With the help of a couple of friends, we started a frame off restoration New Years 2010. With the help of LMC, we replaced the complete suspension, brakes and some engine parts, and had a rolling running chassis that fall. After finding my 52 body was not worth saving, I purchased a donor southwestern F-1 with no rust. Replaced the bed and fenders with new, massive body work to cab, doors and other parts, then painted half the parts in winter and the rest in the summer of ’13. Finished assembly and on road that september. The following spring I over heated the engine and found a cracked block. The good news was that I found it was a mercury 255 with 4″ stroke and EAC heads, not a 239 as I had thought. Found another 8BA block, machined 0.060″ over, R/R my mercury 4″ crank and EAC heads, and reassembled with the stock cam. Keeping with an original theme, I kept the 6V system, 2 barrel carb and oil bath air filter. Went with OEM wheels with high wall radials and dual exhaust with headers. Along with a new radiator from LMC, this baby runs beautifully, sounds great and gets the looks too.
