My current truck is a 1993 Dodge Ram W250. I’ve been into the square body Dodge trucks ever since I was a kid. My dad had an ’81 D100 that he bought in the early 80s. In ’88 he traded it in on a very nice two-tone blue ’85 D100. This truck would come to be known as “Old Blue.” It has over 300,000 miles on it and we’re still running it!

My journey with these trucks started in 1995. I was a junior in high school when I bought my first Ramcharger, a 1986 black and silver two-tone. From 1995 to 2001, I had four different Ramchargers and a 1979 Power Wagon. In November 2001 I went to look at a W250 1993 copper-colored “1st Gen Cummins.” After some negotiation and indecision, I traded a nice’89 Ramcharger on my first diesel-powered vehicle.

When I bought the truck it was just a daily driver and tow vehicle, as all my Ramchargers had been. I did a few mods to it here and there, as money allowed: leveling kit, wheels and tires, tonneau cover, etc. I did some performance mods along the way also.

In the summer of 2002, I went to Carlisle All-Truck and All-Chrysler Nats in Carlisle and was still using the truck as a “driver.” In October 2006 my dad found a beautiful copper/tan two-tone 1993 W250 Cummins. When he bought it, of course that got the wheels turning in my head. I gave him a price to buy my leveling kit, shocks, wheels and tires, etc., so I could go a little bigger with my truck. Over the winter of 2006-07, I stripped the frames, running gear, steering and suspension components down to bare metal on both trucks and repainted it all.

I installed all the stuff I sold dad on his truck and proceeded to lift mine 6″ on 35″ Mickey Thompsons. Dad’s truck has 2″ Skyjacker springs under the front and Rancho RS9000 shocks, riding on 33×12.5-16.5 BFG All-Terrains on 16.5×9.75 MT Classic IIs and a dual Skyjacker steering stabilizer. My truck sits on a 6″ Skyjacker lift with Fabtech remote reservoir shocks. I’m running 35×12.5-18 MT ATZs on 18×10 MT Classic IIs and a dual Rancho steering stabilizer.

The bodies of both trucks are original, with dad’s retaining its flawless stock interior. My truck has a full custom interior and sound system which consists of an Alpine head unit, Infinity Perfect speakers and subs, and JL Audio and Pioneer amplifiers.

As far as performance mods, both trucks are running CAIs, aftermarket exhaust and turbo upgrades, injection pump mods and transmission mods. I’ve also upgraded the guel supply system on my truck to an Aeromotive A1000 electric pump set-up and 1/2″ supply line.

Needless to say neither truck is a daily driver anymore. We drive them as much as we can in the summer, going to as many local shows and cruise-ins as we can, and to the All-Truck and All-Chrysler Nationals in Carlisle.
