In high school Eric Seyller had a blue 1986 GMC, his first truck, that was of course his pride and joy. Eric always wanted the high horsepower big block that everyone else talked about but was never allowed to have it “his way.” After many customized stages throughout the years, the truck was eventually sold and never seen again. Years later he decided it was time to build one just like he had back in high school, but with the upgrades that he was never allowed to have.

This GMC was a worn down, tired, old 1986 Sierra with a small block 305 and manual windows. Eric had Shelton’s Classic Cars in Casscoe, AR, tear the truck down to its bare bones and resurrect it just as Eric always dreamed, using parts from LMC Truck. Eric wanted to maintain a nearly stock inside and outside appearance but wanted more power. Of course, to go fast you gotta stop faster, so the factory frontend was re-used but upgraded with 2″ drop spindles and Belltech shocks. The factory 10 bolt rearend was removed and a 12 bolt positract unit was installed with 373 gears. Next, 4 wheel Wildwood disc brakes were installed to bring her to a nice even stop. The old, tired small block was removed and Eric had Larry’s Automotive build a stroked Big Block to give the Sierra a total of 496 cubic inches. A march performance serpentine setup was installed on the engine to give it a nice appearance. Southern Transmissions built a bullet proof TH400 for the truck and Shelton’s installed a gear vendors overdrive unit to let the truck cruise at a comfortable speed and still maintain plenty of power.

Shelton’s also completed all paint and body work on the truck, using LMC replacement panels to address the cab corners, rocker panels and other normal rust areas. They laid out a flawless finish of Black Sapphire using Deltron base coat and PPG DC2021 clear coat. All exterior trim also came from LMC, including side moldings, bumpers, grille, mirrors, weather strip and lighting.

All of the interior parts came from LMC, also. Door panels, dash pad, seat cover, headliner, visors, carpet, etc., were replaced and color matched to give the interior a stock appearance. Dakota Digital gauges were installed, along with the factory radio that was retrofitted with AUX input and a kicker powered sub mounted under the seat.

Old Air Products supplied the heat and A/C unit to give the truck a cleaner appearance under the hood and do away with the old factory vacuum unit. Power windows were installed along with cruise, also supplied by Dakota Digital. To complete the close-to-stock appearance, American Racing AR23 wheels were wrapped in 15 in tread. With the popularity of these trucks increasing it sure turns many heads on the street, both young and old.
