After searching for a year in local classifieds I found an ad for a 1981 Chevy Scottsdale K20, the ad said the truck was “fresh from Arizona”. I drove out to Lucan to see the truck where it sat in a small barn.

The truck’s body was in great shape, virtually rust free, the engine ran well, and the standard transmission shifted flawlessly, although the paint was faded and the interior dried because of the sun in Arizona, the truck was fitted with an aftermarket air conditioner that blew ice cold air.

After talking to the snowbird for over 2 hours I bought the truck and parked it in my garage. The next day I noticed there were spider webs in the box that weren’t there the day before, sure enough hiding in the stake pockets was a black widow spider which is very rare in Ontario, Canada, so I guess the truck was fresh!

The truck was bought to be my daily driver, the thought of spending a lot of money on a new or truck to drive to work and depreciate in value didn’t seem like a good investment. That being said the truck was in too good of shape not to bring it back to top condition.

The engine ran great and compression was checked but it puffed a bit of smoke on startup, so I replaced the valve seals, put in a new extreme energy 4×4 cam, and topped it off with an Edelbrock RPM performer intake manifold to freshen it up.

The truck’s paint was faded so I had Drag U Down Customs repaint the truck with the original two-tone blue that was printed on the glove box spec sheet, while it was in the shop I had them install the new seat kit as well as many other parts from LMC.

The interior was dried out so I ordered a new seat reupholstery kit and dash. Although the panels were faded they were in good shape so I ordered the vinyl dye kit from LMC to renew the color and they turned out great. The exterior was also a bit faded so I ordered new side and rear lenses, and a new rear bumper, all of the parts fit like factory.

I was extremely satisfied with how quickly LMC sent the parts to me and to Drag U Down Customs shop when I forgot a few necessary parts. Thanks to LMC’s quality parts into their tech-support for helping me order the correct parts for the job and to Drag U Down Customs for making this truck a real head turner.
