In September of 2014, my daughter and future bride came to me and asked if I would restore her an old Ford truck to leave their wedding in. They had chosen a beautiful barn wedding venue and thought it would complete the whole barn wedding theme by leaving in this truck. Like any daddy would do, I jumped at the chance to make our daughter’s day even more special. So the search was on and it didn’t take long, I’ve been restoring these old Ford trucks for 30 years now. I found an abandoned 1969 Ford F100 Custom and transformed it into a Ranger. We quickly gave her the nickname Betty Ford as she was about to embark on a quick six month restoration. I joined a family oriented Facebook Group, Fixem Your Way 67-72 F100’s and received a monument of support and made so many friends. Speaking of friends, I had local guys that would come over unannounced to help, it was great. We basically worked around the clock once I got the truck home at the end of November.
There would need to be pages to write of all the selfless acts of friends and family as Betty Ford the Wedding Truck came to life. The wedding date was April 18th 2015. We had friends at the house on the Saturday morning of the wedding still finishing her up. Another close friend came over with an enclosed trailer and delivered Betty just in time for the photo shoot at noon. The wedding and the truck were a hit. It has been the most rewarding restoration I’ve ever done.
