MY 1988 CHEVY C1500, THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN IN MY FAMILY FOR OVER 20 YEARS. MY MOTHER DROVE THIS TRUCK WHEN SHE WAS PREGNANT WITH ME. THAT WAS BACK IN 1992. AFTER SHE HAD ME, MY DAD TOOK HIS TRUCK BACK FOR WORK BECAUSE HE OWED HIS OWN CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS SO HE NEEDED THE TRUCK FOR THAT. MY DAD DROVE THE TRUCK FOR SOMEWHERE AROUND 10 YEARS AS NEEDED FOR WORK. WHEN THE CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS WENT UNDER MY DAD WENT TO TRUCKING SCHOOL TO BECOME AN OVER THE ROAD TRUCK DRIVER. WHEN HE LEFT FOR SCHOOL HE DECIDED TO PARK THE TRUCK OUT IN OUR BACKYARD SINCE NO ONE WAS GOING TO BE DRIVING IT ANYMORE, I THINK I WAS AROUND AGE 12 OR 13 WHEN HE PARKED IT. ABOUT ONCE OR TWICE A WEEK I WOULD GO AND START IT AND LET IT RUN FOR A LITTLE BIT. AS TIME WENT ON I WENT OUT THERE LESS AND LESS TO START IT AND EVETUALLY IT WOUDNT START ANYMORE. I ALWAYS LOVED THE TRUCK SINCE I COULD REMEMBER I ALWAYS WANTED MY DAD TO GIVE IT TO ME WHEN I WAS OLD ENOUGH. AS I GOT OLDER I STARTED TO APPRECIATE THE OLDER CARS AND TRUCKS A LOT MORE. ONCE I GOT TO HIGH SCHOOL I STRUGGLED FOR A LITTLE BIT. AFTER MY FIRST YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL I DECIDED TO SIGN UP FOR AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNOLOGY. I GOT MY LETTER SAYING I WAS ACCEPTED, I WAS THE HAPPIEST PERSON ON THIS PLANET. I CALLED MY DAD IMMEDIATELY (HE WAS OVER THE ROAD DRIVING TRUCK AT THE TIME) AND TOLD HIM THAT I WAS GOING TO GO TO AUTOMOTIVE SCHOOL. ONCE I TOLD HIM THAT HE SAID “WELL SON I THINK ITS TIME WE PULLED THAT OLD TRUCK OUT OF THE BACKYARD SO YOU CAN START TO WORK ON IT AND GET HER RUNNING SO U CAN DRIVE BACK AND FORTH TO SCHOOL”. SO ONCE MY DAD GOT BACK HOME AFTER BEING ON THE ROAD FOR A MONTH OR SO, WE STARTED GETTING TO WORK ON HER, I WAS SOMEWERE AROUND 16 OR 17. WE STARTED TO WORK ON IT WERE IT WAS PARKED AT BUT IT WAS SO HARD TO DO IN THE DIRT AND GRASS AND HARDLY BEING ABLE TO SEE. SO WE GOT OUR OTHER TUCK AND PULLED IT OUT WITH A CHAIN AND PUT IT UNDER OUR CARPORT SINCE WE DON’T HAVE GARAGE. THATS WHEN I WAS REALLY ABLE TO START ON IT. FIRST THING I DID WAS PUT NEW TIRES ON IT BECAUSE HOW ARE YOU GOING TO WORK ON IT WHEN IT HAS FLATS AND CANT MOVE IT. I HAD A FRIEND OF MINE THAT HAD A NEIGHBOR THAT HAD AN OLD TIRE MACHINE NOT AIR POWERED OR ELECTRIC THIS WAS A REAL OLD STYLE ONE WHERE U HAD TO MOUNT AND DISMOUNT TIRES BY USING A REALLY LONG STRONG PRY BAR WHICH WAS NOT FUN NOR EASY. AFTER I DID THAT I HAD TO PRETTY MUCH REPLACE THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM BECAUSE MY DAD HAD PARKED IT WITHOUT DRAINING THE FUEL AND I QUIT GOING OUT TO START IT AFTER SO LONG, I WAS JUST YOUNG AND TIRED OF DOING IT I GUESS AND WANTED TO GO HAVE FUN INSTEAD OF WORRY ABOUT A TRUCK. I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AND SENDER ASSY, FUEL INJECTORS, FUEL LINES, REBUILT THE THROTTLE BODY TWICE. ONCE I DID THAT THE TRUCK FIRED RIGHT UP AS IF IT RAN ALL THESE YEARS. ABOUT 6 MONTHS AFTER I TURNED 18 MY DAD WAS KILLED IN A CAR ACCIDENT ON HIS WAY TO WORK ONE MORNING. THE LIST JUST GOES ON, OVER THE YEARS I HAVE BEEN FIXING IT UP AND MAKING IT LOOK BETTER WITH A LOT OF PARTS FROM LMC TRUCK TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. I HAVE NEW SHOCKS FRONT AND REAR, 2″ DROP SHACKLES IN THE REAR TO LEVEL IT OUT, NEW SWAY BAR, SWAY BAR BUSHINGS AND LINKS, WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS ALL THE WAY AROUND, NEW TIRES, NEW BRAKES, BRAND NEW A/C SYSTEM, ALL NEW TRANSMISSION SEALS, NEW PINION SEAL, LIST GOES ON AND ON BUT YOU GET THE POINT. I WANTED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL LOOK OF THE TRUCK BUT JUST WANTED TO ADD SOME STYLE AND CUSTOMIZATION TO IT. SO THAT’S WHAT I DID WITH HELP FROM LMC TRUCK.
