One day I was looking through the newspaper classified ads and there was a picture of an old brush truck for sale in a silent auction. It had been tossed around between 2 fire depts it’s whole life. So my family and myself went to look at it and I placed my bid. The reason they said they were retiring the truck was because it would overheat when pumping water, it had manual steering,it was a 4 speed and they were switching to automatic vehicles, it was slow and didn’t have ac. I didn’t think the chances of me winning the old girl were in my favor because I only had $3000 to spend. Well wouldn’t you know, a week later I got a phone call saying that I won the truck. One of my mom’s friends was in the fire dept it was in and they personally delivered it right to my house. It was perfect timing because it was my 17th birthday and wouldn’t you know they delivered it on my birthday. The local fire dept heard that I had purchased a brush truck and wanted to look at it. There were wanting to build another truck so they bought everything in the bed. It had a 275 gallon water tank, automatic hose reel, manual hose reel,3 tool boxes a pto driven water pump and a spray system for dust control. They purchased all the fire fighting equipment from me for $1600 and built another truck and still run it today. This truck was my daily diver for 3 years back and forth to school and work. I parked it in 2011 and started to restore it. The motor was perfect, it was rebuilt at 12,000 miles because it overheated from pumping water. It had a thick coat of pant. It was painted red then highlighter yellow then white twice. It took me 2 years to restore the truck. The bed was shot because it had holes in the bed from gauges and pipe work for water so my friend had a wielding business and we made a bed from scratch and I just added the original fenders.then I went to the local saw mill in my town and from the help from my great uncle who was a cabinet maker we tongue and grooved and made the wooden bed from scratch. It has a 292 v8 small block with a 4. Speed rear end. Top speed is about 60 mph. It rides like a tank because it got the special ton and a half leafs and on each side it has 18. She has an easy life now from car shows to cruise ins and just drives into town.
