My story starts a year ago. A good friend of mine asked me to check the condition of a truck a friend of his had which was parked in her garage. He said that she was looking to sell it as she did not drive it anymore and wanted the garage space back. Ok, I said, and that started the journey. What I discovered later was, that his friend and her husband were the original owners of the Scottsdale. They had ordered the Scottsdale new from Lee Johnson Chevrolet in Kirkland Washington, trading in their 1963 Corvette and another car to purchase it. They took possession on April 30, 1978 with the Scottsdale having 6 miles on the odometer. Her husband drove the Scottsdale regularly. Then sadly, in 1981 he suddenly passed away and the Scottsdale was parked in the garage. Over the next three-plus decades, she drove the truck occasionally, but it basically sat in storage in her garage.

Fast forward back to last year. My friend took me over to her house and I found the Scottsdale in her garage. Upon looking it over, I found that I was essentially looking at a time capsule. It was showing 32,456 miles on the odometer, and everything was original to the truck except the wheels/tires (tires found to be 30+ years old), steering wheel, battery, exhaust, & grill. The interior was in essentially in “as new” condition. The seller advised that the Scottsdale has been a garaged vehicle all its life, so the mostly original black paint was in great condition, with the body having no rust what-so-ever. I think my friend set me up knowing I would be interested in buying the Scottsdale. The deal was made a few weeks after first viewing it and I brought it home. Upon closer inspection, I found that even the shocks & brake rotors & drums were original equipment.

Since I’ve owned the truck, I’ve made some minor changes. To include:

1). New tires and rims.
2). Light blue color highlight to the exterior body trim to tie into the interior color.
3). Added 2″ with drop shackles to even out the stance of the truck.
4). Wood steering wheel
5). Added new carpeting over original rubber mat.

The plan is to keep the Scottsdale as is and enjoy it. It stays parked in my garage and driven only on nice days. I’ve had inquiries if the truck is “for sale” when out enjoying it which is flattering, but I think I’ll be keeping it for awhile.
