I have known where this truck was since I was a little boy. It was always parked inside at a local veterinary clinic where it was used as a service call truck. At that time, it had a service box on it. In later years, it was purchased by a local rancher and the service body was replaced with a regular pickup box. It was then repainted with the original Caribbean Turquoise color and used as a parts runner for his ranch. After several other owners, I noticed it in an open front shed at a friend’s house. I told the owner that if he ever wanted to sell it to, please let me know. About a year later, the phone rang and the owner said if I wanted the truck, it was mine.
After careful inspection, myself, my wife and son decided that we could bring this truck back to show quality condition. The paint was good but oxidized, the rims were ok but not original, and the engine bay needed a good cleaning and detailing.
This truck has about 45,000 original miles on it. After a good buffing, the paint came back to life. Original style rims and dog dish hubcaps were ordered from LMC. A cab light kit from LMC was added to give the truck more chrome and break up the turquoise color a bit. A tonneau cover was also added. Original style mirrors and brackets were added, as well as chrome bezels for the rear tail lights, all purchased from LMC. The bench seat was also recovered in a softer more showy material.
The engine is a 292 and had a crossover exhaust system. The exhaust system was replaced with Rams Horns exhaust manifolds to accommodate dual exhaust. Also, chrome accessories from LMC were added to the engine bay.
Today, the truck is used as a date night truck as well as a show vehicle. People love the color and originality. What I like is that every single thing on this truck still works.
