I purchased my 1949 F1 from my uncle in 1981. It had been a farm truck for him, and had been sitting for years, after running down a hill and into a barn. At the age of 18, I rebuilt the motor, and got her in running condition, stuck gallons of body filler in it and had a nice looking driver. Fast forward a few years, and the body filler caught up with me. I decided the only way to win this game was to do a total frame-off restoration. After a marriage, a divorce, and another marriage… It sat idle in my garage for many, many years. I never lost my dream though, that one day, it would be complete, and be done “right”. Fortunately, by the time I finally got around to my project, many new parts had been reproduced, and suddenly a non-stop flow of “LMC” boxes arrived at my door. I am now nearly 60 years old, and finally completed my “life’s work” and dream from 42 years ago. I’m sure many doubted that the truck stuck away in the corner of my garage, would ever be completed. Well I’m proof that no matter how many years a project might be delayed, it can always be completed. There is just something about the old fat fender trucks that screams “classic”. I entered my ’49 in her first show this summer at the Hershey Antique Automobile Museum, and won “Best in class”. Thank you LMC, for making my dream possible.
